Course Overview

In the Lead Firearms Instructor Certification course the Instructor will develop and be tested on several new skills on topics such as: modern adult teaching techniques, multiple weapon platforms (revolvers, shotguns, carbines, pistols, precision rifles, submachine guns and machine guns), state-of-the-art equipment such as NVGs and Thermal Optics, as well as being exposed to—and setting up—advanced scenario drills.

Prerequisites: Completion of Firearms Instructor Certification.

  • Plan, brief, run, and debrief multi-weapon range days with clear performance metrics.
  • Design force-on-force and low-light evolutions with structured safety controls.
  • Coach shooters effectively across beginner → professional levels using adult-learning principles.
  • Implement corrective strategies that build skill without killing confidence.
  • Evaluate gear (holsters, lights, optics, suppressors) and integrate platform-specific clinics.
  • Author and administer written and practical evaluations aligned to course goals.


  1. Safety brief, medical plan, comms & range SOPs.
  2. Fundamentals tune-up (platform of the day) + standards.
  3. Clinic blocks (e.g., Low-Light / CCW / Precision / AR accessories).
  4. Scenario builds: cover, movement, comms, decision-making.
  5. Instructor practicums (students run blocks with peer eval).
  6. Debrief & assignments (lesson plans, eval prep).




Required Gear

  • Primary handgun + quality holster (no Serpa/unsafe designs), 3+ mags & pouches
  • Carbine/rifle w/ sling (where applicable), mags & support gear
  • Eye/ear protection (electronic ear pro recommended)
  • Handheld or weapon-mounted light (for Low-Light clinic)
  • Season-appropriate range clothing; knee/elbow pads recommended
  • Notepad, markers, shot timer (if available)


Admin & Notes

  • Physically demanding—train within your limits; hydrate.
  • Ammunition can be purchased on site (subject to availability).
  • Snacks & beverages included; lunch break daily.
  • Successful completion requires passing theory & practical tests.




Active firearms instructors, unit trainers, range officers, or experienced shooters preparing to teach at agency, academy, or club level.
